To support governments in developing design policy, we have developed a design-led process to co-develop policy proposals. The workshops and support activities engage with  a broad set of stakeholders typically government officials, academics, designers, businesses and skills agencies to gather the different perspectives. The process involves:
  1. Mapping design stakeholders and initiatives in the Design Innovation Ecosystem;
  2. Analysing the strengths and weaknesses of the Design Innovation Ecosystem;
  3. Co-developing a set of tangible policy proposals;
Innovation ecosystems are used as frameworks by policy-makers and academics to develop innovation policy, as such we are proposing the concept of a Design Innovation Ecosystem to feed into design policy development.

Outcomes are clear and precise and further work can be undertaken to support the translation of the findings into a realistic and measurable design policy and action plan.
