New Product Development
Domestic & office networking technology for the Russian market

Imaqliq (formerly General DataComm) are based in St Petersburg. They were  formed in 1993 and are now the market leading  telecommunications company in Russia.

The organisation has grown since its inception from a distributor through a systems integrator to the design and manufacture of its own product range. In 2011, after a buyout from its US parent company the company repositioned and rebranded to reflect its journey, its growth and its future ambitions.

PDR were approached to design a key part of their network technology, a range of optical network units to be used primarily in office based corporate environments and larger domestic settings.

Imaqliq struck PDR as a company with strong energy, ambition and dynamism with a clear sense of the opportunity and the possibilities within an awakening Russian market. The company required a modern contemporary design that reflected this across key product that would in turn act as a the foundation design language across a further two ranges of products including 19” rack mounted devices.

Initial concept designs explored the dynamics and corporate DNA of the company alongside its roots and culture around its St Petersburg base. Visual language analysis and positioning tools were used to underpin and direct three conceptual design directions. These were named Aero, Flow and White Night.

The core direction around Flow was selected for further development and design work moved into development and detailing.

The final design was tooled and manufactured in Vietnam and launched in early 2012.
